This year’s 4th Annual PFH Modest Fashion Convention in Laguna Hills, California was really one for the books. On August 13th, 2017 the PFH Convention became the largest modest fashion convention in the United States! We had over 500 attendees coming from all parts of the nation – from D.C. to NYC to Texas to Arizona and all of California. Our bazaar included over 30 brands from local, national, and international companies all run by Muslim women. It was incredible to have a jam packed venue of all women who supported other women. Our Panel discussion featuring trailblazing Muslim women: Yasmin Elhady, Isra Chaker, Marwa Atik, and myself was a great addition as we discussed important topics facing the Muslim community from how to authentically create communities of support, to combating Islamophobia, to coping with the de-veiling phenomenon by tearing down the divisive walls between “hijabis’ and “non hijabis”, to how to start a company of your own.
One of the main highlights was the Design Your Own Hijab booth with Swarovski crystals. Women were so excited to have the chance to be able design their own scarf on the spot with the Swarovski team applying the best quality crystals. It was amazing seeing the creativity and excitement!
We were fortunate to have a lot of mainstream media coverage of the event – click here to read the article by the L.A. Timesand here for the video and article by Pop Sugar. We are very thankful to our sponsors The Ritz Carlton, Krispy Kreme Donuts, Aleppo’s Kitchen, Cherryvale Farms, CREAM, and Farmers Insurance for their support and contributions.
But the biggest thanks of them all goes to the incredible PFH team that are the unsung heroes of this event. There are over 40 incredible women working behind the scenes to ensure the success of the event and I’m forever grateful. A special shout out to my main PFH ladies Jocelyn Lopez, Zermina Akbary, Rana Festok, Jamiela Kokash, Samealzy, and Brittany Bravo. I truly couldn’t have done it without them!
Thank you to everyone who flew out, came out, and showed their support from near or far. These events wouldn’t be half as successful without your continued love and support!
I hope you enjoy this trailer that recaps the event so beautifully and accurately. If you weren’t able to attend, here’s your chance to re-live the event! Dont forget to live, comment, and SUBSCRIBE <3
