Just got back from Cancun, and the hubby and I had such a nice time alhamdulelah. It was our first time there and we couldn’t get over how beautiful the ocean and sand were. The Caribbean Sea is a must see! The water was a clear turquoise toned color, and the off white sand was so pure and pleasant to walk on that I didn’t need my water shoes when I swam in the ocean!
*Be sure to check out my previous post on how to pack just the right amount of clothes when traveling :)
We stayed at the JW Marriott Resort & Spa and were very pleased with our experience there. We were there for four days and three nights. When we arrived at the airport, the hotel arranged for a complementary shuttle pickup from the airport to our hotel – which was about a 30-minute drive, as well as on our way back to the airport when we left; which was really convenient. If you’re interested in using the service, be sure to arrange it with the hotel in advance.
We spent the second day at XPLOR Park, which is the equivalent to Disney Land but for adults (they also have kid friendly theme parks). These parks are of the main attractions there. We did a bunch of water activities, zip lining, underground rafting, and dirt ATVing; it was loads of fun. The day pass also comes with access to an all you can eat buffet, which was really good. There are also smoothie and milkshake kiosks all around the park that you have access to as well.
On the third day we did a day trip to Cozumel, which is an island about an hour away from Cancun. Cozumel is one of the top two best dive sites in the world. My hubby was especially excited to scuba dive there for the first time and had an unbelievable experience. I went snorkeling instead, which was so neat because you’re literally swimming amongst so many fish in such clear water – it was memorable.
Now for the food: The first night we went to dinner at a popular spot recommended to us by our hotel called La Destileria, and I have to say we were not impressed even though it’s highly rated; I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Truthfully, It was hard finding a place to eat that we really loved, but in all fairness I think the trip was too short to thoroughly explore the food scene even though friends had told me before that they too weren’t impressed. The second night we ate at a Peruvian place called Lima that we liked much more but still, we were hoping to have authentic Mexican food. Hopefully next time!
On our last day we spent it at the water by our resort taking it easy and soaking up the sun. The water was warm and the whims of the waves were a lot of fun to swim in. It was such a delightful and unforgettable trip. Definitely going back there iA!
