Lunch on La Brea - Sycamore Kitchen

SPOT: The Sycamore Kitchen

ATTIRE: Casual

ADDRESS: 143 South La Brea Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90036

Okay so I am guilty of having a bit of an obsession with this place. You'll understand why in a minute.

Sycamore Kitchen is located in Mid-City Los Angeles and is considered to be a quick breakfast or lunch spot. It's a really cute and quaint cafe/bakery on La Brea Ave. I love the feel of this place; its has a vintage rustic vibe to it with modern touches. My hubby and I love to hit up this spot, a little too often, but especially on Saturday mornings to eat brunch on their patio.

Now for the best part, THE FOOD. There is not a dud on that menu I tell you! Everything that we have tried, we have absolutely loved - to the point where we just can't stop going back. Here's a list of must tries:

  • Brown butter date mini bundt cake: I love anything with dates so this was a no brainer, but I never had dates combined with a brown butter sauce so the combination had me hooked. Not to mention, its the perfect mini size and SO moist.
  • Salted Caramel Babka: This is one of their specialties; it's a salted caramel pecan sticky bun - incredible, and who doesn't love salted caramel?
  • Buttermilk Rye Pancakes, maple syrup, salted butter: I don't know what to tell you. My husband went crazy over these. They have a slight crisp to them on the edges and a soft texture - the salted butter is a perfect hint of savory to this sweet dish.
  • Yucatan Bowl: Chicken tinga, black beans, corn tortilla, fried egg, avocado, pico de gallo; this combo goes together perfectly, and if you like spice then you'll enjoy adding hot sauce to the mix.

  • Grilled shortrib sandwich with onion-stout jam, mushrooms, Swiss cheese, & horseradish mayo - deeelish!
