The Art of Layering

I’ve been waiting to share this post with you about how to layer in clever ways and get the most out of those pieces in your closet that you wear only once or twice a year.

Look very carefully between the short sleeve forest green lace top and the long sleeve lace embellished sleeve.  If you haven’t guessed yet, I’m wearing a long sleeve shirt under a short sleeve ROMPER. Rompers are short jumpsuits, and the one I’m wearing comes to my mid thigh. I usually wear it only to all girl parties with a pair of pantyhose but wanted to get more use out of it.

I was able to find a long sleeve shirt that matched the color of the romper perfectly. You don’t always have to match the colors, in fact often times it can be a nice contrast to wear a different colored shirt under a short sleeve one. In this case I wanted to match it for some flow and continuity. It just takes a few extra minutes to sift through your closet and compare colors and fabrics. You don’t necessarily have to match colors but you do want to make sure you match fabrics. It’s not a good idea to pair a cotton shirt with a silk blouse.

As for the pants, the best type to wear over a romper in order to hide it, is a loose fitting one like the harem silk pant I am wearing. Any type of jean (wide-leg, skinny, straight cut etc) won’t look good because it won’t hide the fact that you’re wearing something else under it. The harem pant covered all the right areas and has the extra room afforded for layering seamlessly.

As for the heels, I’m in LOVE with these black leather toed vinyl heels that give the allusion that you’re not even wearing proper shoes. They’re super sleek and and elegant.

Now it’s your turn! Go to your closet and pull out those pieces that you barely wear and try spicing it up by pairing it with another top or pair of pant. Good luck ;)
